Default Power steering fluid

So I purchased a Audi A4 2ltr diesel 2007 last week and when checking through all the engine fluids I noticed that my power steering fluid is low (barely on min on the dip stick) from what I can tell when wiping the dip stick the fluid looks a very pale yellow colour.

Now on the reservoir tank it says mineral hydraulic fluid only however when looking through mineral fluids the colour seems green. So I’m thinking the previous owner used the wrong fluid? Unless the fluid is bad and needs flushing?

My real question is what fluid am I supposed to be using? Thanks.

CHF 11S is the correct fluid and it's a very nice green color. You can also use CHF 202, which is supposed to be less expensive. I don't recall what color it is.

Using non-compliant power steering fluid in the VAG cars can lead to all sorts of surprises, Magic...

Thanks for the quick reply. So am I ok to just fill up the tank with CHF 11S or will I have to first flush what little is in the reservoir now?

Magic, impossible for me to answer that since neither you or I know what's in there know.

If you buy adequate fluid, you could do several flushes (or drain the system) and get the known correct fluid in there.

Does it not matter that this is synthetic and the reservoir tank states only mineral?

I understand you are not in the USA, but from what I've seen, the CHF 11S has been the ONLY power steering fluid for a long time period. It is the only fluid recommended around the time frame your car was built. Do you have your Owner's Manual? Can you check it for another reference?

Here's the Pentosin info: Pentosin - Hydraulic Fluid

The CHF 202 product is newer to the USA. Perhaps not new to you? The dealer would have only handed us CHF 11S because we did not have the CHF 202. The cap on my 2006 car shows the same info your car does: Mineral oil only, G 00200.

I have a can of CHF 202 in my basement. It only shows that it meets the Porsche standard and a Volvo standard, it makes no reference to Audi or VW. The can also states it's fully miscible with CHF 11S.

With all of that said, I'd use the CHF 202 assuming you can purchase it. I looked at mine and it's a green color similar to the original CHF 11S.

G 00200 always cross references back to CHF 11S. CHF 11S has always been "synthetic" and considered long-life.

I looked at the cap on my '11 A4 and it is identical to the cap on our 2006 A6, suggesting CHF 11S.

Thanks for all your advice. After closer inspection the fluid that was in was a very dark brown colour and looked bad so I flushed the system as best as I could and added the new fluid (CHF 11S) - green. After doing this I turned the engine on and turned the steering wheel which resulted in a very vibrating grinding noise. After a few turns from lock to lock this noise went away and seemed back to normal however when looking in the fluid reservoir I’ve noticed the fluid is foaming which seems like there’s air in the system? How Can I remove this air to stop the fluid foaming? I’ve checked and as far as I can see there are no leaks and everything is back on tight. Thanks.
