I've always used premium fuel on my Audi. Recently put in 89 and there was a big difference in performance. My engine was not as smooth and my fuel comsumption was worse. So you don't really save when you fill up with cheaper gas. Too bad we don't have 93 octane in U.S. Anyone notices a difference in performance when using premium fuel(91) compared to 87 or 89 octane?

Probably 'cause we're so close to the refineries. Here's an interesting read from C&D concerning fuel grade and car performance:

Clickity Click Click Click

"Too bad we don't have 93 octane in US."
Ummm, every gas station I go to here has 93 octane. Just because your State does not have it, does not mean that the entire US does not.
We also have some at 94, and you can find "racing" fuels at 100 to 110 octane at pumps.
And I don't even want to go into the debate on fuel economy -vs- octane rating.
