have a 2007 a4 2.0
CEL came on today, drove home, felt like turbo was off maybe slow shifting in automatic.
Codes P0087/P2293/P0171
car has 87k miles, bought from a dealership at 79k
Read a bunch about people blowing these codes under warrany and fighting with Audi.
But what should I do now to check these codes. Also, will the car just die anytime soon?
Thanks!! Lurker since I bought but now I had to post

P0087 AUDI - Fuel Rail/System Pressure Too Low
Possible causes
- Faulty fuel pressure sensor
- Faulty fuel pump
- Fuel pressure sensor harness is open or shorted
- Fuel pressure sensor electrical circuit poor connection
- Blocked fuel filter
- Fuel line restricted
- Faulty fuel pressure regulator
P2293 - Fuel Pressure Regulator 2 Performance
P0171 AUDI - System Too Lean Bank 1
Possible causes - Incorrect fuel pressure
-----------------------------------
Try this:
1. install a new fuel filter if you haven't recently
2. test or replace the fuel pressure regulator
3. check fuel pressure - if the pressure is not up
4. replace fuel pump

if the fuel filter doesn't pan out. It could be your cam follower.
Call audi of america and give them your VIN number to see if you are eligible for the extended warranty on the cam follower/intake-cam-shaft/high-pressure-fuel-pump replacement.
If you are eligible and have not been chipped or tuned, bring straight to dealer and tell them you have the CELs. They will check your cam follower to see if it is worn all the way through. If it is they will replace it all three of those main parts for free.

Thank you both,
Currently jammed for time, and couldn't do all the checks, had a local trusted (although I would worry about audi) mechanic take a look.
He found the fuel pump and cam shaft blown.
Called Audi and they said this is under warranty as you stated.
1 more questions. The audi guy on the phone said "they didn't open it up did they" I said no, but they had to take a look.
This won't void my warranty, or run into any issue with warranty, will it?
Thanks a BUNCH!!

Just put the worn cam follower back in and limp it to a dealer. U can drive a bit with it like that...it won't hurt anything that won't get replaced anyway. Make sure u get ur n80 valve replaced too (its not expensive). Sometimes bits of the cam follower get lodged in it and it won't work properly.
An independent shop can do the repair for you but you'd have to deal with reimbursement and sometimes u wont get fully refunded by AofA. (Ask me how I know) Just make sure the work order is clear and that you keep a receipt of payment.
If u just bring it to a dealer u won't have deal with any of that bull sh*t. Just make sure they replace the HPFP and intake cam shaft too

Thanks again for all the help.
Needed a new HPFP and cam follower as well as a new intake camshaft. Then it needed a variable valve timing sprocket. Which was listed as an adjuster in the description of what was replaced.
Are there new issues that may arise from having this blown HPFP, or am I just better off with all the new parts?
Anything I should keep my eyes on the lookout for?
I did get to drive a 2013 a4 while waiting for this one to get fixed. That was a nice bonus!

Not sure about the variable timing sprocket, but the cam shaft and HPFP are included as part of the extended warranty (EW), so these should be at no cost to you.
Definitely have the HPFP replaced because the plunger (the part of the pump that follows the shape of the cam) has now come directly in contact with the cam which is bad. Regardless of its condition (i.e. the plunger might not be worn that badly) have it replaced....its a mandatory part of the EW.
If you brought the car to an Audi dealer, you should not have had to pay for a thing out of your pocket.

Thanks Shanster,
That was all done already through the dealership, those are the things they replaced. They let me drive around a 2013 while I waited and everything was free.
I've had the car for about 36 hours and I just threw a blinking CEL for a P0302
I had just started the car and the idle was rough, noticeably, saw the cell blinking and it went out. Then I drove to work and pulled the code.
No issues on the drive.
Worried that its related to the replaced fuel system, I think its technically a #2 cylinder, frustration growing.
