Default radar question

I know this has come up numerous times in this forum, but I had to ask. =p

I'm about to get a radar, but I don't know which one to get!

My brother has the Valentine and he says it's pretty good, and so do other people. But I also hear that the Passport x8500 or something? I heard that one is really good too and also a lot cheaper than the Valentine...
So which one should i get??
Thanks in advance!!

Default 3 detectors to buy ... and no other ones to consider...

you will be happy with any of the 3... and it depends what you are looking for...

top 3 in no particular order...
V1, Escort Passport 8500 X50, Bel Pro RX65

I have a Passport 8500 X50 never thought twice about getting a V1. I have said it before and I will say it again a million times.... the only thing the V1 offers that the others don't is arrows and to be 100% honest they are useless.... I see Ka-band I slow down, I see K-band that isn't a standard Walgreens I slow down...

both the Bel Pro and the Passport 8500 X50 have bogey counters, showing you the strength of each "radar bogey"... both also have much better filters for falses then the V1 and both are cheaper...

now cheaper should not be a reason alone... if you cheap out and get 1 ticket then it makes up the price difference...

however, i consider both the bel pro and the passport superior to the v1 so i do not consider it "cheaping out"

in truth any of the top 3 and you will be more than satisfied... and then you will just need laser jammers (by blinder !) to be 100% safe

Default i love the V1...i had one of the BEL vector models a few years ago, and it was very good as well,

but the design of the V1 is much better. The mounting bracket that came with the BEL sucked.

Default I think The V1 and Passport 8500 have been rated the top two detectors.

I chose the V1 with remote; as the V1's can be updated according to it's URL. Just wish the housing was a little smaller.

The V1 placed 1st in the below Car & Driver test.

Default you will be ok with any of the top 3 detectors i mentioned in my post

but you will still only be safe if its just radar... because your odds of detecting laser are very low... and then most of the time if you detect it , its too late

Default With all my respect to MB The Body, but the arrows on the V1 are very useful.

I'm sure the top 3 detectors mentioned are very good. And yes it's true that if the detector beeps its only logical to slow down.

But once you harness the arrows you will find how much advantage you have with a bogey. When it beeps, you don't have to be paranoid by looking all around you. Is it ahead? Is it behind? What about a useless bogey to the side due to those pesky restaurants? And if there are multiple signals detected, where is the Ka band really coming from when there are K bands in the area, too?

The V1 will tell you exactly where the Ka band is so you don't have to go scanning for that unmarked cop car. You scan the area that the arrow is pointing and you can analyze on that concentrated area especially after realizing it's on the other side of traffic.

(This V1 ad was brought to you by...)

Default no i mean i know what you're saying....

there is no denying the ease the v1 provides you... but....

in my experience (and by the way i don't think you can go wrong with a v1, passport, or bel pro).... the arrows (not to say useless... thats poor wording) but to me not that important.

Sure I've had situations where Ka has come and gone without me being able to detect a source....

but more often then not I am able to detect the source and move on, i still get the signal strength for the multiple bogeys all at once and am able to tell whats going on... and generally unmarked cars are relatively easy to pick out (once you know radar is the in the area)...

but like i said any of the 3 detectors i mentioned are top notch....

the bel pro / passport have better filters than the v1 and false a lot less, both are also ~100 cheaper

the v1 has the best laser detection of the 3 (but i never put that in the forefront because laser detection is so difficult anyway... that a cop can get you and the detector may never beep)
