Rough shift into 3rd

2006 A4 2.0t Non-Quattro Stick w/ about 7000 miles.
Ever since I purchased the car a few months back, I've noticed that the 2nd to 3rd gear shift feels quite rough. It's hard to describe, but most of the time I can hear either a clunk-ing noise or a ratchety type noise. Shifting from 4th to 3rd, however, is always very smooth. I've taken it into the dealer twice to have them look at it and both times they told me that the car is "performing to Audi specs." I wasn't too satisfied with this answer, so I did a little searching here and found a couple other posts that seem to descirbe the same problem, but none of them have really come to any conclusions as to whether or not this is, in fact, acceptable performance:

So - is this really "normal" or should I take it back in and make them fix this?
Thanks

I would always shift with the palm of my hand on top of the shifter, and would push forward but also apply a bit of pressure downwards and the shift wasn't smooth or would get "stuck". Somebody mentioned try pushing the shifter forward without having the palm of your hand on the top but on the back of the shifter and it made a huge difference.

Mine was the first of the three referenced posts. I have since had it to the dealer, and they also said it was performing to spec. However, three different employees test drove it, so they took my concern seriously (or perhaps they weren't sure if it was OK???). But the local dealer's service department (Jacksonville, FL) has proven competent and fair over the years (previous B5), so I trust their judgement.
I would add that it feels more like a problem with the linkage than with the internals of the transmission.
It's going in later this week to a local performance shop for adjustment on the Milltek exhaust, and I'm going to get their opinion, too. Will add their $.02 Wednesday night.

A snub mount replaces the front engine mount. It enhances upshifting and downshifting, reduces driveline shock, and helps power transfer by taking up excess drivetrain slack.
