Default It's not mounted under the stick shift.

It mounts just below the front radiator.

On the 2.0T (and earlier 1.8T B6 models) you can remove the snub mount easily once the belly pan is off.
On the V6 models there's considerably less room, and you do have to pull the bumper and radiator support forward a little to gain clearance.
