I'm having a strange vibration that only comes on when on full throttle between 2500-3000 rpm in 4th, 5th, and 6th gear - especially 5th and 6th.
As you accelerate full throttle, everything is fine, but starting at 2500 rpm it feels/sounds like you're driving on the rumble strip on the edge of a freeway between those rpm ranges and then goes away when above 3000 rpm and everything is fine again.
The car is at the dealer now to try and track down the sound. I took my tech on a drive yesterday so he could hear/feel it and he was going to try and track it down this morning.
Anyone had something like this?
John

Hi Guys,
First post here![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I'm having the exact same problems as described by John, just that the range is wider.
In 4th, 5th and 6th WOT from around 1800 to 3000RPM I hear and feel a rumble that appears to come from somewhere in the drive line. Most of the noticeable vibration appears to be on the rear axis but the feeling is that it starts somewhere in the front.
No vibration is noticeable in 1st, 2nd and 3rd at any rev range. The same with 4th, 5th and 6th outside 1800rpm to 3000rpm. Also if I go easy with the pedal, no rumble at all in any gear.
Car is an Audi A4 B6 2.5TDI Quattro. This started after the car has been mapped. In fact, if I remap with injected diesel lowered by 4mg on that rev range the vibration disappears.
What I did while trying to fix the issue ( with no positive results ):
- replaced both front drive shafts ( complete new units )
- new wheels and tyres
- replaced OEM clutch for a reinforced clutch ( Saschs SRE + new throwout bearing and pilot bearing )
- replaced the DMF for a new original one
- replaced the cardan ( prop ) shaft for a brand new one.
- replaced all the front control arms
- replaced the rubber "holders" on both front and rear sway bars
- replaced the rear sway bar for a stronger version.
- replaced the engine mounts
- replaced the gearbox mount and the gearbox cross member
- replaced the transmission support frame
- replaced the rear diff oil
- replaced the stock suspension for a coilover kit.
- replaced the exhaust from a custom one, including the exhaust manifolds.
- replaced the injectors + nozzles. the car's injection during that rev range ( actually during all the rev range ) is perfect. The rumble doesn't appear to come from the engine.
What am I missing? Maybe:
- replace the rear diff
- replace the rear drive shafts
- replace the rear diff mounts
- maybe the exhaust ?
- ?
I haven't done any of that because I have inspected them and they seem fine, with no play. What am I missing that I can add to that to-do list?
I know a good way of finding this: put the car on a rolling road that sits on top of a pit and actually see the vibration happening but I haven't found anyone with that kind of set up.
John, did you fix the problem?
Cheers!
