Suggestions on a Aftermarket sound system.
Could someone suggest a good sound system that has JL 10" w7. All the other components are up to what ever you guys think would be good. Looking for speakers amp wiring sub and wanna keep stock head unit. I wanna be in the ball park of $1000 - $1300. Thanks for the suggestions.

really, the only way to pick speakers is to go listen...
find a good stereo shop and bring your own music, listen to a number of different components and go from there.
FWIW, rear speakers are for fill only, so spend your money on good separates for the front and the amp... just get the basic rears from whatever manufacturer you pick for the front speakers.
As for amps, do you want to stick with the traditional, larger AB-class amps, or go with the newer, smaller D-class or digital amps?
I liked the small JL and Alpine amps I saw at CES.

Agreed, but never really felt auditioning speakers off a sound board worked for me...
Gotta hear them in someone's car...and sound quality is so subjective. I can guarantee what the next poster in this thread likes, I may find borderline offensive.

Do you already have the 10w7? If not, why limit yourself to that specific sub?
There are quite a few subs out there that will perform just as good if not better than the 10w7 for a lot less money. Which helps a lot when doing a budget install.
As far as drivers are concerned, do you want to go passive or active?

Not necessarily, that's what I'm saying.
I've heard one's on a sound board that were unimpressive, but in-car were very nice, and on the flip side I've heard one's on a board that were very nice, but once in the car they made my ears hurt.
In one case I visited a store that had a small room set up to audition speakers, and they placed about 4 components in a kick panel array around the seat, and you could audition their high end speakers that way. That's probably the best way I've ever auditioned them outside a car. But the classic approach by many retailers is to build a wall of speakers with a switch so you can listen to any of them, and frankly I think it doesn't work at all. It's like evaluating TV's 70 degrees off axis. You might learn a little something, but real world use might surprise you (good or bad).
