The Thule website says "no" and recommends that if you're using it for gear/luggage rather than skis to wrap in plastic.
Is this really necessary? Is Thule just covering their ***?
I'm planning on getting this box, but now I'm concerned about using it in rain or snow.

I've owned 2 Thule boxes, and just ordered a third. No, they aren't waterproof... but you aren't scuba diving with it, either. Snow won't get in, but in driving rain on the highway, sure, some water will leak past the seals on the box. No, the box won't fill with water. But yes, in heavy rain a wee bit gets in and if your box is packed tight to the sides, the water will soak into your stuff. But we're talking about such a small amount that it's nothing to worry about. Anything in luggage will be absolutley fine. Personnally, if i want my stuff to stay BONE DRY, I use a SealLine Baja dry bag (soft sided, and water proof). Get the box.
