I have noticed a widening gap on the dash of my 1 year old 2008 B7; I love the car, but I am concerned with this evolving gap. Is this typical? Should I pursue this with the dealer for warranty replacement? I would not expect this from a luxury car of Audi's caliber.

People that have dealer techs tear their cars down chasing after rattles are probably coming out behind in the long run.
I know that when I do work interior fit/finish is the ****tiest job.. the fasteners are plastic and tend to degrade after a single fasten/unfasten cycle.. you have to do lots of bending and prying to get anything apart.. and stuff tends to not go back together precisely the way it came apart. I can't tell you all the stories i've heard of people who had super high expectations of a new car being perfect, had someone tear into the dash, and got a car back that had tool marks all over the plastic or scratches in random spots, etc.
My biggest apprehension about buying a new car was having unrealistic expectations that would drive me insane to have every little thing looked into. Thankfully i've not had a problem.

..from the photo it looks like one of the pieces of trim is either incorrectly aligned or a manufactered defect. Audi's have a good reputation for an interior fit and finish that is second to none. Complain to the dealer and explain that you want it repaired/replaced and looking like new.
Best of luck!

Maybe something just isn't snapped in place, properly. I'd inform the dealer of your concern - especially that it's worsening and then read their response. Ask if it's uncommon or if it could be relatively easy to remedy.
The only downside would be, as "thrash" says, that they might scratch other bits while repairing. You could mention this concern, too.
If you're willing to take "no" for an answer, then I think the soft approach has more potential than trying to be a hardass about it.

cluster, that pulls straight out. Two torx screws there, unscrew that and the cluster comes right out. Re-seat it and see if it sits flush. Probably as simple as that. It'll take you 10 minutes to do this.
