Hi All, just wondering if anyone else out there has the 2.0 TDI and if they are experiencing erratic idle ?
I have had mine from new for 4 months now and its terrible (probably worse in my mind if I am honest as I am so tuned into the problem now)
Audi dont appear to have mechanics any more, just computer techies as they say there is no problem "coz the computer says so" but then they feel it when they sit in the car and have been unable to give me a resolution.
Any ideas anyone? I would be really grateful

I have 2.0TDi and have no problems with erratic idle at all. It would be good if you could be a bit more helpful with the information though. When does it occur, cold, warm, seconds/minutes/hours after starting etc?

yeh, sorry should have put more details.
Rev needle doesnt jump but there is like a shudder through the car every second or so when at idle.
Havent noticed common factor but it mainly happens when engine has reached running temperature.
When its cold it seems to be ok.
It is intermitant but the shuddering does seem to be getting worse and more frequent.
just hit 5k mileage and its been doing it since new.

...and I also have a friend who has experienced this issue with a 2.0TDi A3.
Just as in your case, nobody at the dealership could give me a good answer as to why it happens. They concluded it was normal even though it is not.
However, my friend with the 2.0 TDi had it tuned. The folks who performed the engine tuning (Abt I think but I might be mistaken) have explained him that there are some problems with the A/C compressors installed on the A3, and just some of them, not all.
Keep in mind, I am talking about A3, but both experienced the same problem you are. Currently in the A4 I have not experienced the problem but I would assume that the A/C compressors are not very different. Try suggesting that to your dealer.
Hope it helps,
T.

Remap on a PD injection vehicle will almost certainly cause slightly irratic idle. This is because a remap will usually overfuel and you occasionally get a slight 'jolt' every 3 seconds.

After thinking about it; I think I get this too when car is cold (-5*c to 8*c).
But every other 2.0 TDi i've driven does it as well, so it doesn't bother me and I assume its just the balancer shafts sorting themselves out from cold? :S
Mines done 3300 miles now and the only problem its had is the groaning Power Steering problem at car park speeds.
