Default VAG-COM cable

These vag-com cables are mucho cheaper than on ross-tech's site. Can I buy one of these $30 cables and add on a $99 license from ross-tech and get the same thing as their $329 product?

No. You need a CAN capable cable to access all of the control modules in the B7

But many $30 ebay cables say they support CAN!

Yes, assuming that the cable works.

Default Even a VAGCOM cable from Rosstech doesn't work on the B7

The software didn't detect anything.... had to use the HEXCOM cable.

Default Lead to believe it supported CAN

Wasn't my cable so it could have been one that didn't support the CAN bus.

Default and, according to Ross-Tech, the B7 requires 500.0 or later

Default but note, I'm talking about *some* modules, not all.

For example, I was able to access the radio module today using a generic tool (from http://obdtool.com/) and an older version the the VAG-COM without any issues.
