voice control for bluetooth

i'm having some problems with my voice control using the bluetooth connection (navigation, tech package...). The manual says that I can save voice names into the car via two methods. One is to say "store number" and then you are prompted to say both the name and number and it is stored. this way works fine for me.
The other way mentioned by the manual is to scroll through your phone's phonebook on the trip computer (after pressing mode to get to it) and once you're at the number you want, say "store name" and it should store whatever name you say. when i do this it simply asks me for the name and number just like the other way. in addition, the manual says once i save by the second method, i can press the voice control and simply say the name for it to dial rather than selecting the name, waiting for it to be repeated back by the car and then saying "dial".
sorry for the length of the post but i really can't figure out what to do, i've followed the manual to the letter and the dealer is clueless.
any ideas?
