I just got my VAGCOM cable and it was the first thing I did. Keep in mind that the code to change it is different for 08 cars than earlier B7's, but if you have any questions as to what the code should be you can always contact Rosstech or post in the VAGCOM forum. Support seems to be excellent from what I have seen. If you are a total n00b at using a computer and have no technological knowledge i might say pass, but for anyone experienced with using a computer you should be fine.

you can get cheapie cables on ebay for about 20 bucks, but they're not 100% compatible with VAGCOM and don't work with CANBUS functions...the cable that Ross-Tech sells is quite a bit more money, but can do a lot more as well. I ended up getting the Ross-Tech cable since it's really a one time purchase that shoud be good for any VAG cars I get going forward in addition to my B7...

I don't remember the code off the top of my head, but if you check the VAG forum there's a link to it in there from not that long ago....someone with an 08 RS4 posted it.

For some unknown that method worked for some people but not all.
All B7s uses the same proper code. The only change I've noticed since my original post from way back is that some cars are now showing up with an "8" for the last digit instead of an "1".<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a4b7/msgs/51598.phtml">My post from 1½ years ago</a></li></ul>
