...I recently drove an STi. Now we all know the STi has an issue with its look, especially the garish wing but I think that the way the car drives more than makes up for the ricey look. The engine has great torque & whines like a 747 on launch. The ride is firm & flat in the corners. The steering spot on. I loved the short through shifter. It is a just plain fantastic driver's car. Anyone in the market for a performance machine certainly should check out the Subie (or for that matter, the Evo).
But gotta wait and check out the 3.1 liter A4. That B7 better be available with a manual tranny or I'm gonna jump ship for sure.

The Tip will be quite nice, especially if it is like the new A6.
it is rather quick in the "Manual" mode.
6 speed too.
You may get better gas mileage than the stick.
Look at the S4; it has better mileage in auto than manual.

...got slightly better mpg than the manual. That the Tip does better than the stick is a surprise to me. I did once have an A4 1.8t loaner with the tip and I hated that particular combination.
Well, in a few months we will be able to drive 'em. BTW, have you driven an STi? That Subie is dialed in!

the S4 Tip does have better mileage than the S4 stick.
The S4 has a 6 speed Tip Vs 5 Speed Tip on the A4.
The extra gear may have to do something with it.
Haven't driven the Sti, but it sure is a beast.
It all depends what you are looking for.
if you are looking for luxury sporty and awesome fit and finish get the A4, if you want hardcore..get the Sub.

...stop by a Subie dealer and give one a drive. I certainly can't say that it would be your ticket but it is a remarkable experience. This might be especially true if you are, as I suspect, a car enthusiast.
I'll just have to wait and give the A4 a shot. I love my current A4 with the exception of the 1.8t engine. I've considered an ECU upgrade but have decided not to mess with it due to warranty considerations.
Naturally what I'd really like is an S4 Avant but I'm just not ready to make that reach due to the $$$.
