I am trying to make a 2nd key and have noticed that there are a bunch of numbers written on it:
FCC ID: MYT 4073A
IC 4427A-4073A
06.569.800 16S
8E0 837 220 R
315 MHz (frequency of chip?)
So I have a few questions:
Thx

So I have a few questions:
- Can anyone explain what each number means?
- Also, I understand that, to cut a new key, the most important of them all is the "FCC ID"? If so, why?
- I've also read that some buy used, already cut keys, which they then program at the dealer - but doesn't the cutting pattern need to be exactly the same to be able to work? All the B7 keys I've seen thus far all have slightly different cutting patterns
Thx

Yes, if you order a new key from the dealer, that's how they do it, by VIN - but people are using 2 methods to avoid paying high dealership costs for keys:
1. buy used cut keys and just having the dealer re-program them
2. buy blank keys, have them cut by 3rd party and then take to dealer to re-program them
While #2 provides an exact copy of your original key, the real enigma that I have is related to #1: since the key is already cut, how will it work if it has a different cutting pattern than your key?...or is the cut pattern determined by one of these numbers on the key?
