Default The Ziza 3 pack...

Hey fellow A4 lovers...

I decided to 'pimp' my ride somewhat and installed the ziza 3-pack (along with the ECS snub mount and some new spark plugs). Everything went smoothly (took some time to get the damn snub mount on the post!), but the LED license plate lights are throwing a bulb failure warning light in the dash. Is this supposed to happen? Any ideas? I couldn't see an embedded resistor in the new LED bulb, so perhaps one placed in series would help?

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Nick

Default

You will need to put a resistor in the line.

Default Try a resister value of ~220 ohms connected in PARALLEL, not series, with the LEDs. ...

The added resister is parallel connected anywhere on the power supply side of the LEDs, across the +Vbatt to the chassis ground or negative wire. See diagram for example. "X" in the wiring diagram is the license plate light. The line at the bottom is chassis ground.

Default Thanks..

220 ohm as a dummy load, OK. 1 watt should be OK?

Default Yes, 1 watt pdr will be OK, IIRC, that is the value used for

LED city lights also. However, there is a small chance that the license plate light lamp check function could have a different power draw threshold used to detect a burned out bulb, compared to the threshold used for the Parking/City light circuits. In the unlikely event the 220 ohm resister doesn't prevent the bulb out warning, a different resistance value will be needed instead.
