I have a 2012 A4, and agree that there is less brake dust. I usually wash the car 2-4 weeks apart, and noticed a little bit of wheel dust, but not a lot. Just spray on some wheel cleaner, and rinse off.

My co-worker has a 2009 A4, and his wheels always look sooty a few days after he cleans them. He asked if I changed my brake pads already, because my wheels were not as sooty as his.

I have both. I run the 10 spokes for summer and the all season 5 spokes in winter. They are both great, I can't choose between either one.

In the begining it was choice to have 5 spoke. Now, in my opinion, it is purely subjective, sport car enthusiast is usually 5 spoke, luxury car fan usually have more than 5. I have 10 spoke sports package on my quartz gray avant. While driving down the road at 35-60 a clean car and ten spokes in the SoCal sun really glisten.
Wheels get dirty with brake dust every 10 days, car gets hand washed at the detail shop wheels included $15. The wheels are spotless and no regrets.

I went through the same experience as many, liking the 10-spoke wheels once I saw them (but not liking them just from pics). I have a 2011 with the newer brake pads and have no problem with cleaning, which I was also paranoid about.

Just got my A4 with the 10 spokes, and I gotta say they looked a lot better than I thought they would. But the 5 spokes still look better.

I've got the 10-spoke wheels on my 2011 A4, which I cleaned this morning with the moist paper towels I'd just cleaned my windows with. This car produces much less brake dust than my 2003 A4 did, and the dust it produces is much, much easier to clean off. All in all, I spend much less time cleaning used brake dust off the wheels of this car than I did with the old one, even with the new car's larger number of spokes. I personally like the looks of wheels with more spokes.

I had the sport package wheels...could not wait to switch them out...running ttrs reps now...so clearly i go with the 5 spoke. Wish we could pick back in 2009...
