thanks i just bought one of those oil extractors on ebay cant really do anything yet cause i cant find the oil filter in any of the local auto stores no one has it or they dont carry it all. so i had to order online will be arriving in a couple days then i will try it out.

The U.S. service intervals are fixed. The first is at 5K then every 10K (or 1 year) thereafter. Longlife oil is used here. I wouldn't be surprised if those set intervals were driven more by dealer demand for steady service revenue as opposed to the actual needs of the engine.

Honda has been using a "maintenance minder" system in their recent cars. There are no longer fixed intervals for oil changes and tire rotations. The computer tells you when the services are due and there is an oil life indicator. I believe BMW is using long life intervals and oil quality sensors for a while in the US as well.
