That 180 MPH Speedo...

...really is beginning to annoy me. The graduations are so small that the thing is nearly useless other than to give you a general idea of how fast you're going +/- 5 mph.
Given that the vast majority of us will never see even half of that and given that the car won't even *go* that fast, what's the point? I'd much rather have had a 130 mph speedo.
And before anyone says it, yes, I'm using the digital speed function on the trip computer. I just wish I didn't have to.

Maybe they made numerous speedo gauges to fit all of their cars?
I was very pleased to find out that we have a digital display. I wasn't sure how to explain to the Officer that I was going 30 instead of 20 through the school zone.

I agree that there is no point in the B8 A4's speedometer being scaled to 180 but there wasn't really much point in the B7's being scaled to 160 either.
My complaint it that it's scaled to 180, evenly graduated, only uses 270 degrees worth of the circle AND (my biggest complaint) 0 is at the 6 o'clock position.
That puts 60 mph at the 9 o'clock position and 120 mph at 12 o'clock.
I'm getting used to it now but it's still ridiculous.
On my 200 miles drive home from purchasing my B8 3.2, I was cruising on the highway and playing with the MMI. I did not have the cruise control on. I am used to driving a B7. In my peripheral vision, I can see the speedometer needle in a normal position for highway cruising in a B7. I was alone on the highway and the car was so smooth and quiet that it was a few seconds before I really looked at the speedo and saw I was going 100 mph.
Now that's MY fault for not paying attention but I'm sure I'm not the first guy that has happened to.
The B8's speedometer design looks good but it's clearly a case of style over function.

Every large tick up to 80km/h is spaced out by 20km/h. After 80km/h, every large tick is +40km/h, which is brilliant for hiway driving!
If I'm looking at that picture correctly..the 9 o'clock position is 100km/h?? That is pretty strange indeed..
Sorry for the bad quality, just took a phone pic

When you spend the majority of your time under 80 mph, makes no sense that its only 25% of the circle.
Plus with the old Audis we've had, 80 was at 12 o'clock so now it takes extra to get used to.

doing mental math (guessing) to know how fast I was going.
Although I should be able to switch to mph on the digital display, right?
My B6 Ultrasport (ie: S-Line) only had kp/h, however the regular B6s that I saw had kp/h with mp/h... maybe the Ultrasport was low production enough that the cars came Euro-specced. Even though the dash does not have any unique s-line branded elements
