If you go from summer 18" to winter 17" how bad is the handling? I have sports package.

I have sports pack, too. Handling is not TOO bad - but it will depend on your tire as well. The taller sidewall will naturally give more play. On the studless ice tires there is definitely more steering delay and is generally more loose feeling. But of course that is driving on dry surface at a decent temperature. Once the temp drops and the snow falls, the handling will be far superior on the winters (of course).

If you get more slushy/wet/heavy snow, and your temps don't get too cold (I dunno, like 0F or -17C), then you could probably get a good winter performance tire, and maybe on the 18s. Up here the studless ice outperform the sport winters - I have tried both types and it is no contest.

I wanted a black rim because I feel that the 17"ers in silver will look way too small. The black hides that (even though there is a machined lip). I really wanted steelies, but apparently nobody makes 17" steelies in this bolt/hub pattern.

ASA GT1 at tirerack

I put Micheline XIce 2's on as we get tons of ice up here.
SpaceCadet CC - I'm interested in what you think of the XIce 2's. I'm also looking at these as we have similar icy conditions here (Regina) through the winter. Have you had them on over a winter yet, or will this be your first year with the XI2's?

Thanks.

It would be a huge "miss" if they got that wrong.
I wasn't able to find any info whatsoever regarding that so I passed and bought from someone in Canada instead.. easier to resolve potential issue in my case.

In New York City suburbs anything below 25F is considered cold. Of course we dress differently. When we ski under 10F is considered cold.

How much snow do you get in Winnipeg? Do you see many Audis there?

How does the sports package's lower suspension handle snow? I love the look and handling but the low rider front and $350.00 US Pirelli P7's makes me nervous.

With a 3 year lease and summer tires the dilemma is whether to spring for wheels or just change the tires. Some aggressive all seasons may fill the bill in many US state since we can return them at lease end whereas snows may be a problem with the lease end Gestapo inspector.

Hard to buy wheels on line. It would be better to see them in person.

my 2010 came with 17" wheels, but I really wish I got the sport package, they are quite small...so 17s will fit (unless your setup is way different?)

My car came with Pirelli P6's in the 17". They're the Four Seaons. Why is there such a huge price difference $80 versus $140 from Tire Rack to Discount Tire.

Get a print out of the online price and take it to Discount Tire. They'll probably match the price or get close to it. If it's only a few $, I'll give my business to Discount Tire.

17" black steel rims wont clear your front calipers, i went with the 18" stock wheels that came with the car.
