Default 2009 A4

Is there a known HP rating for the new 2009 A4 yet? It is not totally clear if there will be new engine sizes in the new body or new HP ratings on both the engine sizes that Audi will offer.

Default 265 hp 3.2 FSI V6 plus an upgraded 2.0T with at least 211 hp

Audi USA has called the new 2.0T a "high power" engine, so that would imply more than an 11-hp bump over the outgoing 2.0T.

Default 2009 A4

In the US, initially at least there will be two gasoline powered versions, already noted by others. There may be other engines in the future, I would bet there will be, but not in 2008 and maybe not even in 2009.

The HP ratings are also widely known and, if you're in the US, are not really all that important. The torque numbers, however, are.

The torque total and the RPM range wherein the biggest part of that torque is usable are the keys to the perception we will have of the new A4.

The V6 will have 265HP and, as I recall, 243 ft lbs of torque; but the 2.0T even if it has lower total torque, may feel as strong since the the turbo's torque comes in at a much lower RPM than the normally aspirated V6.

I have driven the A5 3.2 and I currently have a 2005 A6 3.2. The feel of the lighter A5 with the 3.2 is STRONG, much stronger than the feel of the A6 with the 255HP but same torque engine.

The S4 will be here evenutally but will cost more and is coming at an unknown time in the future AFTER the A4 2.0T and 3.2 come out.

If you are looking for something to compete with the 335xi from BMW in the new A4, well the answer may be "it all depends."

The two cars will, on some level, compete. The 335xi with 300HP and 300 ft pounds of torque starting below 2000 RPM's cannot be touched by the V6 3.2.

The A4 will be larger, prettier (the interior will be "better," i.e.) but it will not be anywhere near the performance of the Bimmer.

The new A4 with a 110+" wheelbase will compete in many ways with the 111+" wheelbase A6 and cost thousands less. The new A4 3.2 is, er, kind of an A6 lite.

If you want performance, the A4 3.2, based on my test drive of the A5 3.2, will supply a decent amount. It needs to have an injection of both HP and torque, but as far as I know it will NOT have it, this year.

I think 211 hp for a 4 cylinder can be considered high-power, but like everybody I want more.

One known engine not available at launch is the 3.0TDI.

Default Not a high priority for me really....

Though a 2.0TDI in an A4 sedan would be a nice option to complement the 2.0T (Audi just announced a 2.0TDI in their TT for Europe).
