Default I've posted on the C6 board about pros and cons of the FWD.

I wouldn't agree about better cornering for FWD as you don't have the benefit of the rears driving the car forward. The 60/40 torque split improves handling, and the new sport differential even more.

https://forums.audiworld.com/c6a6/msgs/37118.phtml</a

Default Here's where it gets dicey...

And here's my thinking regarding the two set ups...
The lighter FWD car can hold a turn better if acceleration is NOT happening at the same time. If one is accelerating around a turn, or out of one, then the benefits of Quattro kick in. Doesn't Quattro only come into play when you are accelerating and wheel slip occurs? For regular corning (without acceleration), the ESC is what keeps the car on course. (If I am wrong about that, please let me know... I would like to learn).

I'd have to estimate at least 90% of the driving public are not agressively driving their A4's in a matter where the Quattro benefits become visible.

Default Audi = Quattro

There's no place for FWD in a premium sedan.

Default That's an absolutely rediculous statement.

Try telling that to the FrontTrak A8 drivers in Europe.

Default well.... not faster 0-60, handling depends, but agree on cost, mileage

0-60 times favor quattro for the B8 -- 6.5 or 6.7 vs 7.3. Street start should favor fronttrack due to the ~100/200 lbs weight difference (6MT or tip), but it would depend on the gearing and the programming of the current gen CVT. This 0-60 time advantage is new with the B8 -- perhaps weight distribution, etc.

They are cheaper, and 1 MPG better city than the 6MT, same Hwy.

Handling will depend on whether or not you are trying to accelerate or even hold power in a turn. Several times I've noticed lots of front plow in my 01 frontrack that got better as I let off the gas.

On a CVT front tires have to divide up their grip between cornering and acceleration. Quattro does to, but it can divide out the acceleration to all 4 tires and to the ones with the most grip.

How many people drive at this level often? Few. It's up to you to decide if the extra cost etc. are worth it.

Default Agree, but minor correction...

The Front Track is quicker 0-60 by a good bit and gets much better mileage.
That was true with the B7 back, with the B8 the 0-60 times are better for quattro -- 7.3 fronttrack vs 6.5 or 6.7 quattro. Somewhere here I've got a thread pondering why -- perhaps the CVT won't let you "brake boost", and/or the new weight distribution and the additional torque of the new 2.0T overwhelms the front tires requiring electronic intervention...

The mileage is significant over the tip, but only slightly better than the 6MT-- 23/30 vs. 22/30 for the 6MT

Correction it is NOT 60/40 torque split, it is 40/60 -- RWD bias, not FWD bias.
