Looking for new A4 Avant summer tires and I would like to hear your opinion on good replacement tires for the stock Goodyear tires currently on the car. FYI, I have snow tires for winter.

Steve, welcome aboard! What wheel diameter size are we working on? What's your driving style? What attributes are important to you?

I have factory stock wheels and tires at the moment. If memory serves they are 225/50/17.
Driving style is mainly around town with the occasional fast country road evening fun time in Sport mode. Handling is #1, quiet drive is #2, and there is little need for snow/ice driving as I have snow tires for that.

May want to double check that size. My stocks were 225/45/17. Not saying you're wrong, just double check.
Since we don't seem to have similar driving style/needs I can't give your 1st hand experience-advice. I will say you probably don't need a high speed (Z rated) tire tho. You could definitely get away with H-rated tires. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=35
Tirerack is great for reviews also. Keep in mind treadwear and warranty.

yeah, my 2011 Owner's Manual calls out either 245/45/17 95H or 225/50/17 94H (All Season).

Steve, how much are we going to be spending? I see a couple of nice choices in the Michelin line

Thanks guys. I'm thinking about V or W speed rated, Z rating seems overkill. The current tires are all-season and as such 225/50/17.
Do you know anything about Firestone or Bridgestone? I get a sweet deal on these brands through work. The local dealer recommend Continental which seem to be highly rated but expensive.

I put a set of Bridgestone Turanzas on our A6 last fall. I've had them on 3 other cars and have been very pleased. Handling is good, tracking is excellent and they are very quiet. However, if you find Conti to be expensive, the B'stones might be more so. IIRC, the Turanzas were ~$200 each in a 17" size.
B'stone has a lot of other popular tires.

I agree Tire racks ratings are most informative. Tough to beat their prices if you order a wheel package. If your Avant is a keeper consider ordering an 18" summer wheel/tire package and leave the snows on the 17" OEMs. I have 19" OEM summer tires but they are scary low profile. Drive well but expensive to replace.

I recently put Continental DWS Extreme Contacts on mine....while mine are all-season, there is a summer version. I researched every major source of buying tires and found my Audi dealer to be the least expensive. I told them what I wanted and they purchased them and mounted them on my A4. Very reasonable as tires go. Shortly after they were put on we had some nasty weather (snow/ice) and the car was absolutely unbelievable tracking through this stuff.
