While it's not confirmed, Audi intends to expand their diesel cars. The engine is already certified for US emissions in the Q7. I've put some info on my TDI specific site linked above along with technical videos of the 3.0L TDI engine construction. If they do bring it to the US, I know what my next car will be!

Thanks for the informative article.
This passage caught my attention: "For example, the A4 has a multilink front suspension which will give more sophisticated handling over the McPherson strut in the other cars."
But somehow BMW has managed to do OK with MacPherson struts on the 3 and 5 series (next gen 5 is going multi-link though?)

BMW is RWD and they seem to get away with it. Porsche uses struts too. Compared to the struts on the FWD VW Jetta there's a big difference in handling. Thanks, I'll change it to say "compared to FWD VW" or something like that.

I'd also be interested to know if the TDIs they bring to the US are going to be FWD only like the current A3 TDI, or if they will have a quattro option. I'd love to have a TDI under the hood, but not at the expense of AWD.

VAG made a lot of compromies to make the CR motor work in the US. There no less than three different catalysts, two EGR systems, and a diesel particulate filter that, according to the manual, may or may not require a $2000 replacement at 100k miles (there go all your fuel savings in one shot!) There's also warnings all through the manual that if any gasoline ends up in the tank (ANY gasoline) the engine self-destructs. Put anything but 507.00 oil in the engine and the emissions system self destructs. And my personal favorite, if you get contaminated diesel fuel, the fuel pump self destructs. But becuase VAG couldn't charge the owners another $50 for a better filtration system, when the pump self destructs, it sends metal sharts through the entire fuel system from tank to injectors. factory mandated fix is to replace EVERYTHING, or $8k-$10k in parts and shop labor.
