UPDATE: The Audi dealer quoted $5,500 to repair the damage they could see to the exhaust cam and they said other cams could be damaged. They wouldn't know until they opened up the top of the engine. I declined and took it to an indy and he replaced the exhaust cam for $3,500. The engine now purrs like a kitten.

It's incredible that Audi would design something that could fall into the engine and cause so much damage.

Default Rough Idle I'm going through this now

So the other day I was going down the highway at normal maybe even less than 65 miles an hour due to traffic. Slowed down for heavier traffic and felt the car shutter a bit and the EPC light and Check engine light came on. I immediately turned it off. Turns out it is a piston ring on cylinders 2 that has failed. The cylinder walls are all chewed up and we are being told we need a new engine.

this is on a 2013 Audi A4 Allroad with 53k miles on a 2.0t 4cyl turbo motor.

The car is being towed to Audi to be checked out by thier techs. This was not something that should be happening with these cars and especially at 53k miles.

has anyone heard of this happening on post 2013 or newer 2.0ts?

thanks

My 2013 A4 started idling rough. The dealership said it’s due to the Turbo and pistons and might cost around $4500 to fix. I went to Autozone and bought Fuel Injector fluid and added a quart of oil cause I drive my car a lot. After running the engine for a while the rough idling decreased and after driving my A4 around town, the rough idling stopped. Thank Gifford fuel injector fluid.
