I can understand why German cars lag in technology. Audi has a tech center in Silicon Valley but Toyota, Nissan, and Honda always beat everyone to market with the new tech toys. I think I know the secret. The lights are on longer at the Toyota tech center, and management at those companies can make a decision. German companies all need to wait for Octoberfest, join hands and sing "Edelweiss" (from The Sound of Music) and do the "Chicken Dance" before they can discuss changes.

It will still be some time before it is in a production R8 or A8, and then it will trickle down to the other models, which is the way they have always done this kind of thing, I believe.
I just wish that these systems could be changed with software updates or at least swappable hardware modules. This practice of fixed hardware reeks of 'planned obsolescence'. If you could change the Nav on your car, you might wait another 6-12 months, or more, before you change your vehicle. So 'Keep 'em wanting more!'.

Agreed. I thought the whole point of this MOST architecture was the ability to add/change modules. It makes no sense for it to be so difficult to upgrade components of the system.

No, MOST (media oriented system transport) is a way for car makers to cut aftermarket auppliers of amps, phones, cd changers, sat receivers, dvd players, and iPods out of the business. So far it is working. There is scant aftermarket equipment that does the MOST thing.

Well, I wouldn't necessarily expect there to be third-party compatibility, but it would make sense for Audi to put in an architecture that works with their own future upgrades. I guess that wasn't their intent.
