"The steering wheel seemed to suffer the most from the cheap material, and its function was a point of contention."
I don't understand the complaints with the material on the steering wheel, which the reviewers call "faux leather"; it seems no different to me than what I've seen on most other cars.

I didn't read the article closely - just scanned how they placed the cars.
For What its worth I like the 2012 S60 T5 - I put the dynamic package in mine. Strong engine, transmission is not up to par with the Audi. Same wheel size as my Audi.
The T5 is my wife's daily driver.
I had a 2008 B7 Avant and just got a 2012 Avant. Black on Black with the Sports package which helps with the steering wheel, seats and handling issues. Super car.
In my view you could shuffle the top four and not really complain too much about the placings. BMW would be likely choice for #1 or #2 in any test.

As for the article, I'm not surprised that the 328i won. You simply can't beat the driving feel of a RWD 3-series with sport suspension. But Volvo in 2nd place and Mercedes in 3rd? Volvo is, by the magazine's own admission, a front-heavy cars that ploughs through turns (it is also extremely ugly, though that is subjective). And Mercedes is underpowered and has lots of body roll. These are supposed to be sports sedans, right?

See the bimmer dyno run on utube - 240 at the wheels. If what monza is saying is true, what are the ecu tuners charging for?

Tuner claims need to be taken with a grain of salt, as most VAG and BMW forced induction engines are underrated. On all the dyno charts I've seen, the 2.0T puts down 190-200 hp. The rule of thumb is that AWD cars have a ~22% transmission loss. This means that a car that produces 190 hp to the wheels is actually generating 244 hp at the crank.

These guys come across as a bunch of clowns who got drunk and wrote up a bunch of non-sense. First, all the other cars are nearly $10-15K cheaper than the 328i.
Yes, many:
1. You can also save thousands with the other cars by dropping options to end up with a mechanically identical car.
2. For $41K, you can get a Sports G37 with a significantly more powerful engine and sportier suspension than the G25, and not sacrifice any luxury items like you have to with the 328i.
3. For $48K, you can get a better optioned S4 with sport differential
Now on to the rest. They harp ad nauseam about the beige interior of the A4, as if that was the only color available. Then this:
1. The prestige is not $1,250. Are they referring to S-line?
2. AFAIK, there is no such thing as upgraded leather, again, unless they are referring to the S-line, which provides Alcantara, not upgraded leather.
3. Based on the tire of the A4 and the 3-spoke steering, they must have tested a sport pack car. So what stiffer suspension are they talking about with Prestige???
Obviously, they have not done their basic homework and they are BS-ing.
They liked the Volvo a lot, but couldn't quite explain why.
I bet they would not be so forgiving of the diesel sound if the 328i had still an I6![Big Grin](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Nevertheless, they were pretty impressed with its handling.
