Good day all,
Having problems with my 2008 Audi A4 b8 2.0 tdi. Sometimes car won't start, whether it is cold start or not, its temperamental when it does. If try crank motor it gives a warning "Switch off engine and check oil level." This problem has persisted a few months, I removed oil level sensor and gave it a good clean, the starting problem went away for a couple months after that but has now began with the the same issues again and has started giving me a new warning light "Oil level sensor Defective"
Can the oil level sensor be the cause of the car not starting or would this be another cause like oil level pressure or maybe glow plugs? When the car does start the engine runs smoothly with zero faults or loss of power etc. Thinking to buy and replace the oil level sensor but hoping for confirmation before I do spend the money on that.
Thanks

How much oil is in the engine. Do we assume you have checked this and it is full. The sensor will prevent start and if it is identifying a bad sensor you should replace it.

Thanks for the reply. Yes sorry should have stated, oil level is 100% have had some other people say that the sensor wouldn't cause the vehicle not too start so a little uncertain of it but think must just give it a try.

Hi Jagtoes.
So bought a new oil level sensor and replaced it and oil, car still not starting. Would I have to reset the fault via diagnostics in order to reset fault as well? Sensor warning still coming up as defective after replacing it

yes you need to clear the fault with a diagnostics tool.

Have you figure out what caused this error?
I am encountering the same issue, no error code on vcds, only "switch off engine and check oil level" on the display and car doesn't start...
What should I do next?
Thanks in advance!

Hi, anyone know a fix for this? I am having the exact same problem, car shut off while driving and wont start again. When turning the key it cranks and after a few seconds i get the error «switch off engine and check oil level».
Oil level is fine.
