Just replaced the air cleaner filter on my 2009 A4 3.2 and thought I would share the steps and pics.
Tools: T15 and T25 Torx bit/driver
Parts: New Air Filter. I used Mann C 16 114 x. Cost was less than $20
Step 1: Using the T25 Torx bit loosen the 7 bolts hold down the air cleaner unit. The bolts don't come out but loosen up from the base.
Step 2: Unlatch the two clips that are attached to the filter cover and also unlatch the clip that is holding down the hose (circled in blue). This is probably not completely necessary but makes moving it the tube easier.
Step 3: It takes a bit of strength but pull the tube off of the filter cover. You may find it easier to do step 2 and 3 first and remove the tube and then do step 1 so you have more of a secure base.
Step 4: Remove the filter cover and element by pulling straight up on the cover.
Step 5: Using the T15 Torx bit remove the two bolts holding the filter element onto the cover. Filter should now come right off the cover. There is a rubber o-ring between the cover and filter which needs to be removed and replaced. My filter came with a new one as well as some oil to put on it.
Step 6: Fit the oiled ring in the slots on the cover and put the new filter in aligning the holes for the T15 bolts. Tighten bolts.
Step 7: Put new filter and cover (cleaned) back in the car and tighten the T25 bolts. Reattached the tube with the two clamps and reattach the hose.
Pretty simple, hope this helps someone.
