Audi's Missed Opportunity: Edmunds drives the '09 BMW 330d
Needless to say, Edmunds creamed its collective shorts. It appears that the new and improved i-Drive has adopted many of the same hardware features of Audi's MMI in the "refreshed" '09 3 Series. I am so disappointed with the '09 B8 product and its launch that I took another look at the 3 Series and it actually felt and looked better now that I have compared it to the B8. I can't believe that Audi spent billions on this new platform and they seem to be letting BMW walk all over them (at least in the U.S.) with more powerful in-line 6 engines, an amazing diesel option, better interior color choices, free maintenance, better dealerships (at least in San Francisco where the downtown Audi/Mazda/VW dealer looks like a Chevrolet dealership, circa 1979), etc. One downside is that the $49,000 335i I looked at was built in South Africa. I never thought I would say it but my B6 Avant may be my last Audi.

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/FirstDrives/articleId=131473?tid=edmunds.il.home.photopanel..1 .*</a

Agreed, Audi should have brought over the 3.0 diesel with the A4's introduction.
We'll be lucky if we see it in 2009 the way things have transpired. Amazes me that the Q7 won't even be ready for sometime still. I had heard that they were deciding on whether a better business case would be made for the 2.0 TDI or 3.0 TDI in the A4. Obviously two very different engines and purposes.

VW's clean blue diesel are on the lot, even in California
It could be running around inside stripped A4's or A3's today. But don't go looking for it.
The nice thing about the smaller blue diesels is no urea injection system that needs periodic service and topping off.

when is it available and can i get it in a wagon?
i really don't know why Audi, MB & BMW don't offer diesels across their entire range in the US. Why the slow rollout? And why first with crossover SUVs, whose buyers wouldn't know diesel from kerosene?

Patience. Audi has the 3.0, 240 hp oilburner on the way for the A4.
