Default B8 info....

Some tidbits of info here, nothing really new but sucks that the 3.0TDI won't come until second quarter of 2009. Sigh, oh why Audi do you have to dangle this in front of us then delay it for another fricken' year and a half.....

An all-new version of the A4 range (codenamed B8/AU481) launches in
November 2007CY in Europe, and kicks off with the launch of a new A4
Sedan after a premiere at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. The U.S.
market follows in Q4 2008CY for the 2009MY.

The next generation A4 sits on an all-new modular architecture
developed by Audi. Audi's new flexible modular setup will be used on
models ranging from the new generation A4 through A8 range.
The modular strategy, called MLB (modulare Längsbaukasten)
internally at Audi, describes "modular length components". As part
of the new modular approach, the engine will sit further back in the
chassis, allowing for a better front-rear weight distribution. As a
result, the new A4 has a visibly shortened front overhang, helping
the overall proportions of the new model.

The new A4 Sedan grows in overall length to 185.2 in., in overall
width to 71.9 in., and has a height of 56.1 inches The A4's
wheelbase grows to 110.6 in., which translates into greater
passenger space than the previous generation model.
Overall styling is evolutionary, with many of the front end and rear
end styling cues taken from the newly launched A5 Series. The full-
length Auto Union style grille is preserved, albeit in slightly
revised form.

The new A4 features new rising and sloping sculpted styling lines
running the length of the car. The front lamp housings have been
slightly restyled - the biggest difference is the addition of 14
integrated and curving LEDs as daytime running lights (available
only with the optional Xenon Plus headlamps).
At the rear, the tail lamps are moderately re-shaped, and the trunk
has a revised, more pronounced lip area at the top and a re-sculpted
line near the bottom edge.
The coefficient of drag for basic models is 0.27.
The use of ultra high strength steel (thinner but just as strong as
regular steel grades) cuts the weight of the bare bodyshell by 10%
over the previous model.

Much of the engine range for the new A4 is either carried over,
revised, or shared with the A5 - all are longitudinally oriented.
At launch, the 3.2L FSI Direct Injection DOHC 24V V6 is carried over
in revised form, producing 265hp. The 3.2L V6 engine features Audi's
Valvelift technology, a variable valve lifting technology. However
unlike typical valve lift technologies that rely on switches or
moving components, the Audi system utilizes actuators directly on
the inlet basic camshaft ("cam pieces") that can be moved
longitudinally to control valve openings. The cam pieces carry two
cam contours placed side by side, for small and large valve travel -
thus, the intake valves are opened depending on position and engine
load requirements. Combined with other friction-reducing elements,
the engine returns about a 10% increase in fuel economy. Audi's
Quattro AWD is standard with the petrol V6.

The engine family will later expand to include a carryover 2.0L
Turbo FSI (TFSI) Direct Injection DOHC I4 producing 200HP.

Perhaps the biggest engine news is the addition of a first-ever
diesel engine for the A4 in the USA (in Q2 2009CY -for the 2009MY),
a new 3.0L TDI Piezo V6 Common Rail Turbodiesel, producing 240HP and
406 lb-ft. of torque. The engine utilizes a carbonic acid diamide
solution to reduce nitrogen oxides in the exhaust tract. As a
result, the A4 TDI meets LEV II Bin 5 classification, meaning that
it will be 50-state compliant. In addition, this TDI V6 is already
EURO V compliant. The engine's block is made up of a lighter weight
vermiculite graphite cast iron material, and is expected to be
paired with Quattro AWD versions of the A4.

The high performance S4 version (introduced a few months after
launch) retains a revised 4.2L V8, producing 354HP.

Transmissions include a 6-Speed Manual, 6-Speed Tiptronic Automatic,
or Multitronic CVT, depending on engine. Later in the lifecycle,
Audi is expected to add an all-new new 7-Speed DSG dual-clutch
automated manual transmission to the range.

The Quattro AWD system retains the use of a torsen self-locking
center differential, with a 40-60% front-rear drive bias under
normal conditions.

Suspension elements include an independent 5-link front suspension
with upper and lower wishbones, and tubular anti-roll bar. The rear
includes an independent trapezoidal link setup with resiliently
mounted subframe and anti-roll bar. ABS with EBD, ESP, and BA are
all standard. An electromechanical parking brake (as seen on the A5,
A8 and A6 models) is standard on the A4 - it is activated via a
button next to the gear lever. Optionally available is Audi Hold
Assist - this feature ensures that the car cannot roll back when
stopping on a hill.

Wheel sizes 16-inch (steel with wheel covers or alloy), 17-inch
alloy, 18-inch alloy, or 19-inch alloy, depending on trim, engine,
or package.

Inside, the A4 includes a 6.5-inch black and white display on the
center console, providing information on audio, air conditioning,
and other applicable settings.

When an optional Navigation system is ordered, the A4 comes with
Audi's Multi Media Interface (MMI) system. A new radio-operated key
is pressed into the ignition switch, and memorizes key driver
settings, and store servicing and fault messages. An
optional "advanced key" remains in the driver's pocket, with a push
button starter. An automatic temperature control system is standard.

Key optional equipment includes adaptive front lighting with bi-
xenon headlamps, LED daytime running lights, adaptive cornering
lights, 3-zone Automatic temperature control, panoramic tilting
roof, and Audi Parking System with rearview camera. The optional
infotainment system will include a Navigation System with DVD, MMI
interface, digital radio reception, TV reception, audio system with
surround sound and active driving noise compensation. iPod and MP3
player compatibility and Bluetooth compatibility is optionally
available.

An optional S-Line package will include sport seats, sport steering
wheel and gear lever in perforated leather, unique headlining,
special inlays, and unique interior trim elements.

Airbag coverage includes standard front-, front-side, and side
curtain airbags. Two rear seat airbags are optionally available.
Adaptive Cruise Control and a tire pressure monitoring system are
optionally available. The optional Audi Lane Assist signals when
unintentional lane drift is sensed (using a camera in the interior
mirror that scans the road ahead of the car), vibrating the steering
wheel as a warning. An optional Audi Side Assist system, a yellow
LED display in the exterior mirror housing lights up if it senses a
vehicle in the next lane. If the driver persists, and activates the
turn signal to change lanes, the LEDs get brighter and flash more
quickly.

An A4 Wagon will also follow later in the 4th Quarter of 2008CY, for
the 2009MY. Engines and mechanicals will be shared with the Sedan
range.

The A4 Cabriolet will be dropped after the 2008MY, as Audi adds a
higher-line A5 Coupe and Cabriolet range of models to its lineup.
The all-new A5 Cabriolet model will essentially replace the A4
Cabriolet. Karmann, the coachbuilder currently building the A4
Cabriolet, will lose the Audi business, as Audi will initiate
assembly of the A5 Cabriolet at its plant in Neckarsulm, Germany.

Default I guess this gives me more time to save up... I will guess we will see the TDI before that. Also

406lbs of torque!!? I thought this engine was around 370. Maybe with the "Bluetech" engine design being Level 11 Bin 5 Class is delaying diesel. This makes it legal in all 50 states.
So, A4 3.0 TDI S-Line. Now I have to decide the color. I guess there's plenty of time for this...

Default I'm disgusted, if this news is true.

This seems to indicate that the S4 will maintain the pig of engine, the 4.2.

To think that Audi is planning to retain that engine into 09 is laughable. The ONLY way that engine would be even remotely desireable would be if they paired it will taller gearing for 5th and 6th gear.

The 4.2...you might as well be towing a boat.

Default Source comes from a credible source, comes from within the auto industry

Yeah I feel the same way also.

More worse that if the TDI is out of my reach, and I'll be looking at a 2.0T again, but it seems that Audi is going to pull another one of their moves and only offer the V6 initially and probably no manual again.

Default 200-hp 2.0T and 265 hp 3.2: They should change the slogan to "Never Lead"

I guess the 2.0T model would still lead the Lexus IS250. Big deal!

The power rating of the V6 model trails just about every competing model on the market right now (G35, IS350, 335i, C350, etc.) and we're talking about the A4 coming out in another year by which time the C-Class will probably get a more powerful V6.

There's a lot to love about the B8 A4 but the engine power is a big letdown.
