when it comes to technology & related stuff, i'd even rather read Consumer Reports than NYT.

Quattro is all that matters and in the end this vehicle will outlast all others. Yes the drive select is over the top (unnecessary) but it's an "option". All reviews, like this know it all, needs to put emphasis on what's standard and what's optional...and when will I ever drag race any of these cars off the line from 0-60??????? NEVER! It just don't matta!

While the 3.2 has 54 more horses than the 2.0T, you also need to compare how that power is being delievered, i.e. torque. The 2.0T delivers the power over a broader range of engine power than the 3.2. This has been discussed before...see attached link.
Also note that the 2.0T has slightly better fuel economy over the 3.2. But in the end, they are both good engines...will just come down to you personal preference.
Here are the numbers (from Audi's website):
2.0T
Max HP: 211 hp @ 5300-6000 rpm
Max Torque: 258 ft-lb @ 1500-4200 rpm
City: 21 mpg
Combined: 23 mpg (this is about what I am getting in mixed driving)
Highway: 27
0-60: 6.7 sec
3.2
Max HP: 265 hp @ 6500 rpm
Max Torque: 243 ft-lb @ 3000-5000 rpm
City: 17 mpg
Combined: 20 mpg
Highway: 26
0-60: 6.4 sec
Current:
'09 A4 2.0T Quattro Meteor Gray Pearl, Light Gray Interior, 18" Sport Package
'99.5 1.8T Quattro Black, Sports Package, Bose

https://forums.audiworld.com/a4b8/msgs/23143.phtml</a

at 6.2 seconds 0-60 and the testers on this show are typically conservative with their times. Has anyone lese seen such a time?

he described that the B8 has great features & quality.
despite the 2.0 being a great engine, it wasn't unreasonable to compare it to other cars in the segment. the comments re: the Infiniti seemed fair to me.
as he was, i am an owner of a late 90's B5. i can certainly concur that the move upmarket has resulted in changes to the A4 that are disappointing.
upmarket may be where the profits are, so one can't blame Audi for going there. however, some of us are still in the market for what the A4 used to be.
