Sorry, this is not really an Audi A4 issue, except that I have an A4.
My less-than-2-month old A4 somehow got a series of abrasions/wide scratches on the rear bumper a few days ago. I have no idea how they happened.
Anyways, I got one of these mobile dent-remover outfits to come by and repair the damage. The guy spent 20 minutes or so buffing and polishing the affected areas. By the end, only a few linear scratches were left, but they are evident even to a casual observer.
The repair guy said the only way to hide them would be to paint the entire bumper, and that touch-up paint is not recommended on newer cars because of current paint/coating formulations.
I don't want to spend $500 to paint the entire bumper, and I guess I can live with the scratches. However, it *is* a spanking-new car.
What is the low-down on touch-up paint?
Thanks.

Since it's the bumper and not the part of the body (metal) I wouldn't do it. IMO touch up paint can be useful on scratches that go to primer/bare metal to postpone the eventual rust through.

I have deep scratches on the bumper and some on the fender of my 2010 A4. I got an estimate from one of my Audi dealer referred autobody repair shops. They are asking $1200 cash (more with credit card) to repair the damages.
I have a deep sea blue and the bumper is basically black. I think the fender is in black as well. So the scratches are not noticeable.
If you can get your scratches fixed for $500, then you should do it. I mean it's brand new Audi. $500 to repaint the bumper for a brand new Audi seems to be cheap. I'm not sure how good the job will be done tho.

I am still unclear as to why some touch-up paint wouldn't work to hide the scratches.
