I drive a tip and am in S-mode all the time while city driving. I'll drop into D only while cruising on the highway.
The biggest enemy of gas mileage on these cars is city driving - sucks regardless of S/D/M.

Why not?
It is your car. Drive it how you chose.
It will not harm your car to use S mode as much as you like. It consumes a bit more fuel, but if you can afford the car, you can afford the fuel.

of course you can, put it in S mode to your hearts content. However, it seems that all S mode does it hold on to the gear longer. Its funny how it does not shift even if you are in cruising speeds.
