I assume this stage 1 and/or stage 2 business is only covered under warranty, right?

It depends. Some people have complained enough that their dealer will do it even out of warranty. So it's up to the dealer really.

I had stage 1 done yesterday with my 25000 service. I will see how it goes from here. I was burning about 1qt every 1200 miles starting about 4 months ago. I have had to add oil to my car probably 7-8 times since owning the car new.

Best part of it all- they loaned me a fully loaded 2013 A6 for the weekend. Fantastic car! I want one!

I did stage 1 last week after going down to 1q per 3500 miles. I have 23k miles on the clock. I can see less soot on the exhaust tips now and the oil meter is more erratic than before. Not sure if the new software has anything to do with it. I opened the hood once and then it didn't want to give me a reading for 4 days / numerous starts and stops. When it did, it was two notches down, the way I had it before I went to the dealer. Then it measured full.

If I recall correctly there is also a hood sensor issue. I believe mine was replaced when I complained about not getting an oil reading for several days.

high consumption is not normal. I had rings replaced and the problem disappeared. The car was out of warranty, but the first time I complained, it was still under the warranty.

call audi usa, open a case with them.

good luck.

I had the PCV thing replaced separately for some other issue around the time I bought the car @ 53k. Not sure if that is the same part replaced with stage 1 or not. Regardless, oil consumption is stupid excessive. I usually just top up a half quart and toss the half empty bottle in the back for the next time the warning light comes on. Usually get the low oil warning once about every 2 - 2.5 weeks. With about ~30 miles/day commuting @ 4 days/wk at most plus about ~350 miles on the weekends depending on whether or not we're shreddin' at Whistler that particular weekend. Anyway, good advice..I think I'll call Audi and hear it from the horse's mouth so to speak...
