Our 1st is on it's way!
I'm looking at all that pristine leather in the backseat and wondering how to protect it when I strap down a carseat. They seem to mostly have hard plastic that interfaces with the seating surfaces of the car - that can't be good for the leather longterm.
Any thoughts? Or did you find a brand that played nice with your A4?

Congratulations on your first born to come!
I used an absorbment (incontinence) sheet underneath and a $12 black beach towel from Costco.
I have a eight month old and a two year old toddler. This sheet and beach towel has protected many a barf-ups. I would also recommend lining the absorbment sheet under the infant seat too so that "liquids" don't get into all the crevices of the base.

With the LATCH system, the car seats do not stretch the leather like they used to when the best way to secure the seat was to kneel one's 250 pound carcass in it while tightening so there was absolutely no play in it. Be sure to use the top tether.
Also, do not forget to protect the seatbelts. Scotchgard is your friend. Our new-used A8 has some disgusting stains from the previous owner's kids. My Passat, which was the carseat carrier for several years, still has a pristine beige cloth interior. I think it's 'cause my kids are superior, of course it could be because I am picky and cleaned stains as they occur! (Good advice: Keep a "stain emergency kit" in the trunk; paper towels, microfiber, bottleS of water, Meguiars' cleaner, etc.)
Good luck and congratulations! It's about to become an entirely new (i.e., better) life for you!

Also, it's easy to train the wife and kids there is no food allowed in the car. People don't believe this is possible, but start early and you can prevent minivan syndrome (where you find fries in the seat rails, etc.).

Congratulations!
+1 re the Duo Mat.... especially once you get into a high back booster seat. The rear seats curve in a bit at the upper corners and the plastic of the car seat can dig in a bit, causing creases in the leather. The Duo Mat is high enough to prevent this from happening. I am very happy with the Duo Mat (can you tell?)
Also- Love this car seat, once your child is old enough to fit it:

We used this one for our daughter when she was an infant and love it as well:

Again, congrats!

Oooooh, racy!
We had a Britax Roundabout cowmooflage car seat:

I still have it, in case anyone wants it (for $50 +actual shipping)it's in its original box(I'm funny that way). The cover alone sells for $50 on Ebay. Yes, I know it's ten years old, but it has been stored well and never in a wreck. Clean, too FWIW. Cost $250 (list was $350)
Sorry to thread-jack you, Nostromo! What's the due-date?
