Default Well they gotrid of the timing belt in the new 2.0T so they couldn't do that:-)

I tell all my friends that every engineer should own an Audi just for the practical lessons in how not to design things for maintainability.

Default Ding! Though I use an oil pump vac from Tempo to do my drain step. Makes the job much simpler.

With the proper arrangment of bags paper towels and a little luck you can keep the oil spill contained for the most part but with the new mondo filter that's not so easy either.

I guess you'd rather crawl underneath your car to change it then?

Would you rather crawl under your car?

<- not afraid to crawl. Rhino ramps + bottom filter = cake. Have to open drain plug anyway.

Default Oil extractor pump FTW!

The only time I had to drain the oil from the bottom was when I replaced the dipstick tube - ()*@)*$@ Audi and their )(*@)!_# plastics.

Default Not trying to be a smart-***, but how effective can an oil extracting pump be on a car engine?

How do you get a clear shot to the drain pan when the oil filler cap is almost always over a cam shaft? Getting the oil through the dip-stick opening would be like sucking it through a coffee stirrer. Woudn't a lot of oil(and contaminants) get left in the drain pan?

To me, it makes more sense to let gravity do the work.

Default Works like a charm.

You thread the tube through the dipstick tube. If you warm up the engine first, all of the oil & contaminants flow freely into the pump reservoir.

Problem is, I still have to remove that damn belly pan to remove the oil filter. Grrr.
