Confused about S-line vs. Sport vs. Premium level

I'm shopping for an A4, coming from a a 2001 A6, and a little confused. If I understand, in 2014 the S-line trim was an option on Premium, but was part of the Premium Plus and Premier. The Sport package (which can be seen in dealer photos as a 3-spoke steering wheel) is separate at all (or at least Premuim and Plus grades).
Is that true for 2013 as well? I looked at a '13 Premium Plus the other day which was clearly non-Sport (4-spoke steering wheel) but there was also no sign of S-line badging at all. Is it just trim, and if so, how do you tell? Car was in excellent shape, 34k miles, had the B&O stereo, but I'm debating whether to hold out for Sport. Colors were stylish/classic black on tan, not my first choice but it's a used car so it's a package deal.
Thanks for the help. Hope to be sliding over from the B5/A6 forum soon.

Thank you very much--great thread! If I understand correctly, at least for the B8.5, there's the Sport option that can also be part of a true S-line package. The S-line appearance package was separate; that only has the trim and not the seats, suspension, etc. of the Sport and true S-line.
