It's on the E93 M3 but not on the E90 and E92 M3s. The E93 needs the extra rigity so it got it.

Be a cool easy mod if we can just bolt that up... I am wondering if it is there just under that cover already though...
From the info earlier in the thread it seems like the brace is there on all models but only visible on the newer sedans without the cover.

A follow-up on this post. So, I went ahead and ordered the rear engine sound proof panel and installed it.

Any differences? Well, I would say front tire sound is significantly reduced, as well as engine sound at full-throttle accelerations. I tried to remember what the car sounded like, and from where the noises came when driving on a concrete road with winter tires, so that I could compare right out of the work shop going down the same road again.

Personally I think Audi USA left this piece out because so few owners in the US switch to winter tires, and the effect of the sound proofing panel is less with just summer tires. A cost saving thing basically. I'm glad I installed it though, car is a little less noisy after installation.

.... or ... I'm just imagining it ...

I just checked my new 2011 Avant and it doesn't have the rear cover. I'm in Canada and I doubt it's connected to winter tire changing. Our models are already different from US models, so it's probably not a US change that spilled over. I wonder why it was removed, if the Euro model still includes it?

Can you provide the part number and price? Thanks..

Jim

Here in the US the cover seems to be installed on A4 Avants, or at least was installed a few months ago when I did check at a dealer. The part number is 8K1 863 822 and did cost appr. 235$ (including all fastening screws and clips) here in the US. Install cover at your own risk ....

Was in EU over the holidays and went to an Audi dealer. Every A4 I did look under had the rear cover installed.

OK thanks! I'm curious, so have emailed my dealer and will report if he has anything interesting to say about it.

I believe the correct part number is actually 8K1-863-822-J, found online here:
