Default Disconnect battery - considerations?

Step #1 for K&N air filter kit says to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery. As I am new to this particular car I'm curious what will happen after I do this.

The user manual supplied with the car says to disable the security alarm. Not sure how to do this, apart from simply unlocking the doors using the key fob.

I do not know what the radio security code is (not even sure where in the manual it would be noted if at all). Do I need to have this?

Depending on how the installation goes, the battery may be disconnected for over an hour.

Car is a 2009 A4 20T.

There is no need to disconnect the battery for an air filter change.
