Do you miss the handbrake?

the A4 stability control functionality is really beyond 90% (or is it 99%) of any given driver's ability to control their car in abnormal conditions. Such control takes practice AND confidence, which is different than bravado.
In terms of emergency situations many 2006+ cars have outstanding chassis dynamics, especially Audi A4 with the optional 'drive select'. Drove one at Sears Point and was very impressed. I would take drive select over having a handbrake anyday.
Yes, there are certain things you can do with a handbrake that you otherwise cannot do. For example, I did once handbrake u-turn my Celica GT4 into a parking place on a side street in Telluride many years ago for fun and have been known to do silly things on gravel that must have a handbrake. But, as far as just keeping the car headed in the direction it should be going, these newer stability control systems are tops. The good ones are especially quick reacting, generally unobtrusive and really effective. Hence, the demise of the handbrake.
Should you or I have access to a handbrake? But, of course! Yet, let's face it, far more novice drivers have gotten into trouble with it than have learned how to use it.
That's my two-cents.
Happy Holidays to all!
