Does anyone still think that the 3.2 competes against BMW 328 after looking at pricing?

Actually if you compare prestige to a comparable level of eq on a BMW it does...
At least for the AWD wagons I'm interested in...
The BMW, fully tarted out is about $3-4K more than the 2.0T. The extra $3300 for the 3.2 puts it right in the same price band hypothetically at least since there's no V6 option with the Avant.
I'm sure the similar exercise on the sedan would be comparable.

- What about a fully tarted out Audi 3.2?

Audi is no longer the value leader amongst the German "Big 3."
The Spoonster was right. Having said that, it looks like only in the comparison between M & RS models do you have similar pricing and specs.
I'm an Audi enthusiast, but if you compare the similar pricing of the 335i to the A4 3.2, the hp is down on the Audi. So the real question is: does the interior, styling and AWD of the A4 trump the hp and handling dynamics of the BMW.
That's a personal question to be decided on individual basis...

After driving both the A4 3.2 and 328 at the Audi Driving Experience,
there's no question between the 2 cars for me at least - the A4 3.2 outperformed the 328 in virtually every category on the slalom course,
The A4 seemed to me to be faster, have less understeer, better balance and equally good, if not better braking. The steering on the BMW felt very tight at low speeds whereas the A4's was right on the mark, adjusting effortlessly and invisibly based on the conditions.
Toss in a much larger and more attractive interior, bigger trunk space and all the new goodies like ADS, the A4 is the value for me.
While the 328 is a fine car, I would pick the A4 every time, even if somewhat more expensive, as comparably equipped. As for the 3.2 engine, it felt very close to my A6 2.7t. Perhaps a bit slower response to 30 mph but makes up for it above 30 and maybe then some. Certainly smoother.
As you said, there are lots of factors that determine value for many folks.
Finally, while beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I most definitely prefer the appearance of the A4. I've been waffling over my 3.2 order but at this point, I think the engine is right for me. (Still want to drive a 2.0t first though).

I'm just glad I bought a fully 'tarted' out A6 w/ only 21K's for $26,600 instead of waiting on the B8.

Nice! That is probably the only time in your life that you will get a deal like that! Enjoy!
