Don't shoot the messenger: Edmunds test of B8 3.2Q

"this should have already been expected that the 3.2 would be slower than the competition just from comparing specs alone. You guys seem like you are surprised."
- They must have been expecting a miracle. The main reason why folks thought that the B8 A4 would be a competitive performer was because no one had actually driven it. Hello!! It doesn't take a Rocket-Scientist to figure out that 265hp wasn't going to cut it.

Just won't cut it. I can't figure out WTF they are thinking over in marketing. It's not like BWM dropped the 300 hp bombshell on them out of the blue - all of the competition has had their cards on the table for a while. The targets, or at least the widely perceived targets are quite clear.

Audi knew what the competition already had and chose not to install a competitive engine. Sad!

"Compare the S4 to the 335i..."
I always thought that this was a cop-out on our part when we'd whine about relative performance between the upper-end 3-series vs. the A4.
But a base S4 is $48k, which is in well-equipped 335i territory. So maybe it makes sense.
So, I don't know that the A4 necessarily needs more horsepower - maybe they just need to market what they have better.
Why should Audi build a 300hp A4 and also the S4? Want more power? then buy the S4, its going to be a better car across the board.
Could you argue Audi could drop the S-badge and let you ala-carte option an A4 4.2 and other S-car bits? Then you'd have a monster A4 going against 335i, which would be more comprable.

and since Audi doesn't make a RWD sports sedan all we can do is compare a RWD BMW to an AWD Audi.
I see that "only compare it to an xi" argument all the time but it doesn't hold water for those of us in relatively moderate or warm climates.

Maybe there would be no point in buying an S4 if the standard A4 had that much power. Would you pay all that extra for 50hp? (I think thats the difference seeing as the S4 apparently has 350hp, they use KW where I am).
I think the S4 would become redundant if that happened. Audi is stuck with making its models either over or under other cars e.g S > M/AMG > RS.
They must feel like its the right thing to do. Guess its time to start saving for an S4, I think I always knew in the back of my mind this would be the case.

I have no desire to own or drive the cars its compared to, so if its faster or slower is absolutely ZERO relevance to me. I'm looking at the A4 in and of itself.
