to keep the price advantage the 2.0T holds over the 328i, and keep it at a decent margin as it is now too.
I really want to get the B8, its the only reason I haven't purchased a BMW already, but if Audi jacks up the price too much it very well may send me to the BMW dealer...

That is a *lot* of punch. More than what the RS-4 can dole out, by a lot. I'd say it'd make a difference even with the extra weight of the diesel engine block.

They may "need" the V6 for marketing purposes, but they can't actually sell that many of them given the poor value it represents compared to the base engine. Just stop dicking around with the misplaced V6 to begin with. Then the A4 line undercuts BMW in price and provides better fuel economy across the board, instead of setting up a beatdown with a V6 that's bringing a knife to a gun fight.

That is a well thought out response, I was considering writing something similar myself, but yours is nice and succinct.
Others here have said it too, the matchups aren't perfectly aligned, but the Audi/BMW comparisons should really start from the top and not from the bottom, in my opinion. Meaning RS4/M3, S4/335, A4 3.2/328, A4 2.0T by it's awesome lonesome... I don't know why folks always seem to do this. It may be because Audi's 2.0T is so strong that you just WANT to put it against the 328... I don't know.
What I am really waiting for is the first 6MT 2.0T Quattro review. Why isn't AOA providing one of these to journalists... Does anyone know of a drive of this setup? And why aren't their marketing folks really directing the model comparisons as mentioned above?
