Front wheel well rust on 2009

Recently, I just noticed that rust started to form in the front wheel well.
On the 2009 B8 and probably 2010, 2011 and 2012 as well, there is not protection for the road stones projected by the wheel.
I was at the body shop of my dealer earlier this week and asked them to put some touch up paint to prevent the rust from spreading.
I ordered some mud flaps, because it can offer some protection, but a little later that day, I saw a 2013 S4 on the street and noticed that it now has a protection lining (see picture).
I cancelled the mud flaps, because I feel they are pretty ugly and ordered one of the left Stoneguard # 8K0-853-823 (at $50, I wanted to see if I could fit it to the 2009 B8 before ordering both sides).
This part has protruding pins that are meant to fit in holes in the sheet metal. Holes that are not present on a 2009 ! It also has some double sided tape to hold it in place...
Not wanting to drill holes in the car and create more damage, I cutted the pins with a razor blade and applied super strong 3M double sided tape on the piece and this week-end I will glue it to the car.
Hopefully, it will hold and protect the metal against furter rust damage...

That's a creative solution for it. Thanks for the heads up. I have a 2009 and haven't noticed any damage there yet. I drive a lot of country roads and gravel too.
I did replace all 4 wheel well liners in February because they collapsed and broke on me.

The problem is not the road stones etc. It is a typical fault in pre-facelifts. The wheel well liner, made of felt-like material, scrubs against the fender and the paint peeling and rusting begins from the inside and definitely should be a matter of warranty.
At least here in Finland this is a known problem and I know many cases where the dealer has replaced the front fenders because of paint peeling in fender arc.
My car is MY2009. The fenders were replaced 2010 when the car was about 2 years old. Now I see the same paint peeling again, now driven 115 000km and the fenders will be replaced again by the dealer. I know one guy whose fenders have been replaced three times !
This time, they told me at dealer's, that there is an official instruction from the factory how to fix them. They will also replace the wheel well liners as there is an upgraded version available now, still felt they told.
It would be wise to upgrade the wheel well liners to plastic versions, which are installed on facelift models (B8.5). The dealer does not do that as they are not a direct fit in pre-facelifts. However, only a slight mod is needed and they fit. I am considering to do this myself afterwards.
Those additional stoneguard protectors come as a standard with facelifts and they are snapped with some kind of fixing pins in the wheel well liner (not in fender itself) . If you want to have these on your pre-facelift, you need to cut the pins away and tape them on wheels arcs.
This picture is not from my car, but obviously the worst example of the rusting fenders I have seen.

For you who have rusting fenders....
There is a special instruction available from Audi for fixing the fenders. The code for this special instruction is 5055 0002 040/041. Request the dealer to check this code.
This instruction includes: removal of rust, additional sealing in the inner edge of the fenders and painting of the fenders. The dealer should take photos and send them together with the goodwill inquiry to the importer. In Finland even 5 year old cars have been fixed under goodwill with no costs to car owner.
