Default Getting slow again. Let's discuss brakes.

All information and Edmunds own tests points to the 3.2 having fantastic brakes. Some of the preliminary infomation indicates the 2.0T may not come with the same brake system as the 3.2. (We all know the preliminary info can sometimes be incorrect.)

This is a little disheartening. However preliminary info also indicates that the 2.0T would not come with Servotronic like the 1.8T in Europe. Making me think the preliminary brake quote was based on European 1.8T information. (or FrontTrak info.)

How likely is it when the 2.0Tq arrives that it will have both Servotronic and the same brakes as the 3.2?

Default

I'd expect them both to be identical for NA.

Default Servotronic is available on the 2.0T according to the US order guide

My guess, the brake system will also be the same, only difference would probably be the size of the brake rotors as the 3.2L is heavier than the 2.0T.

Default Yeah... if they're grouping options to reduce configuration costs I expect identical running gear.

Having two different brake systems and the associated part numbers for something that's not an option just wouldn't make sense.

Default Right.

I think the preliminary article that said they would have different brakes also said the 2.0T wouldn't have Servotronic, but as you pointed out the order guide says differently.

I honestly think that article was comparing Euro 3.2 vs. Euro 1.8T with some assumptions that the 2.0T wouldn't differ in those two areas from the 1.8T.

Default It was in the '09 A4 media info press release where they mentioned these discrepancies.

Dated March 25, 2008 but released May 1 ,2008

Servotronic:

"For the V6 engine versions, Audi offers a further technology: They roll out of the
factory with speed-dependent servotronic steering, which adapts the amount of
steering support to the driving speed. When parking, this system provides for easy
steering, while at high speeds the support is decreased to ensure maximum
precision."

Brakes:

"The V6 versions of the new Audi A4 feature larger front brake disks (diameter:
320 mm/12.60 in). The brake calipers have a composite design based on the
floating-caliper concept. High-strength spheroidal graphite iron is used where a
high level of rigidity is required. The piston housing - bolted into place and made
of aluminum - conducts heat admirably. Taken together, these features yield
brake calipers that are both lightweight and extremely rigid."

It can be read either way. Either the V6 will have larger rotors but both will have the same calipers, or only the V6 gets the new caliper.

Also the tech spec sheet in that press release indicates 320 x 30 mm for both the 3.2 and 2.0T. (So could be some incorrect info.)

Default Yep

Didn't that article also mention at the end that it was for the European market?

Default Nah this was the AoA press release. Definitely intended for US market.

The only disclaimer was the usual "INFO IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE".

http://media.audiusa.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=10015</a

Default The brake specs are in the PDF in very same PR you linked.

Copied/pasted from the pdf:

2.0T (page 37)
System description Dual circuit brake system with diagonal split, Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake pressure Distribution (EBD) and
Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP) with brake disc wiping feature; tandem brake booster
Front, size and type 12.6 in. 320x30 mm - Ventilated disc / ContiTeves FNRG-60
Rear, size and type 11.3 in. 288x12 mm - Solid disc / TRW CII-41
Parking brake Electro-mechanically actuated at the rear wheels

3.2 (page 39)
System description Dual circuit brake system with diagonal split, Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake pressure Distribution (EBD) and
Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP) with brake disc wiping feature; tandem brake booster
Front, size and type 12.6 in. 320x30 mm - Ventilated disc / ContiTeves FNRG-60
