Note who I was quoting - it wasn't you.
I also am aware of and sensitive to the rules of the road. It pisses me off when I encounter drivers who (for instance) either never learned or have forgotten that in a merge situation, traffic on the right has the right of way. Let's not even go there when it comes to "keep right except to pass".
BTW, I probably qualify as an old fart as well. I grew up around professional drivers (my father was one), and I've been driving for over half a century (and legally almost that long .

Unless the law has changed recently, it is illegal in NYS (maybe others) to drive with your parkling lights on. These lights are a way of telling oncoming cars that you are safely stopped at the side of the road and will not be coming out into the lane of moving traffic. To drive with the parking lights on gives confusing signals to other drivers who are aware of the rules of the road (of course in this country lately it appears few are). It is a safety consideration to make sure you are not driving with your parking lights on. This is why DRL's were introduced a while back, so there would be a legal alternative to running around during daylight with your headlights on.
as far as I know, that is not illegal...
