Default Heated Seats: Easy Install?

My salesman said that all the Audi A4s (and I assume other models)have heated seats.

He said they all have the heating element in the seats, but they aren't all hooked up or have the dashboard buttons.

Does that make sense?

Does that mean that if the heated seats aren't listed on the sticker and can pay the dealer to connect the wires and install the dashboard switch?

Unfortunately I'm not knowledgeable enough to answer your question...

However, I have often wondered the same thing, as it might also apply to Memory Seats/Mirrors.
I know w/ the auto dimming mirrors, it's an easy parts replacement kinda thing.
If the wiring isn't present for these features (Heat/Memory) then we probably won't be able to retrofit these options.

The salesman said that it would be too much time and effort for Audi to choose which seats get the heating element so they put them in for all of them.

Default Two different seats - at least for the A3 Audis

I'm not sure if this applies to the A4 but I'll relate my A3 seat experience. My factory ordered A3 was supposed to have sport seats but came off the truck with standard seats. There was another A3 on the same truck with sport seats that they discussed swapping with BUT couldn't because the other seats were heated seats. Apparently, the wiring harness would have been totally different. This leads me to believe, at least with the A3, that they DO have two types of seats - heated and not heated. I did finally get my un-heated sport seats but it took them almost 6 months to order them in.

Yes, on these cars it seems to me, because its "just" a wiring issue doesn't mean that its easy or straigth forward. But it does mean that if you got the time and skill, or access to it, you can at least get the harness relatively cheaply. That harness picture looks daunting, however!
