Default High pitched motor sound

Sometimes after long drives, when I turn the engine off I hear these weird high pitched sounds, kind of like electrical motors, and it goes away after a few seconds. Anyone know what this is?

It doesn't sound like a fan to me. It's more high pitched and intermittent. I hear it for maybe 5 seconds. If I had to guess it sounds more like something is realigning or tightening up inside. Maybe a servo or a pump of some kind?

I have an '08 B7 A4 with the 2.0T. I know with that engine, when you turn the ignition on after it's been resting, the fuel pump pressurizes the fuel system. If you turn the key on but do not crank it you can hear a brief "whirring" sound as it does its thing. I wonder if the pressurizing thing happens when you turn the engine off on the newer engine? Doesn't seem plausible, just reaching I guess. Hamsters in a cage?

Don't quote me on this...

I *think* it might be oil pump \ cooling system... It states somewhere that you don't need to let your car idle to cool down anymore... (the days of turbo timers have passed)

I suspect its some kind of cooling system too. Definitely not turbo related since I have a 3.2

Ah right! Didn't notice you had a 3.2. But ya, I think it's cooling system related.
